47 millon nets funded, 105 needed

The Initiative

Malaria kills more than one million people each year, mostly pregnant women and children in Africa. It costs Africa $12 billion annually. But it doesn't have to be this way.

Long-lasting insecticide-treated bed nets are a proven tool that have helped several African countries to slash malaria infections and deaths by more than 50% in recent years.

The global community is rallying to provide bed nets to everyone who needs them in Africa by 2010.

250 million nets are needed to meet this goal, yet money is only available for 131 million nets via the U.S. Government, the Global Fund, the World Bank, and other institutions. This leaves a gap of approximately 119 million nets.

Governments, corporations, foundations, and private citizens are rallying to "Cover the Bed Net Gap" in Africa through a unique public-private partnership. CoverTheBedNetGap.org will track progress toward this unprecedented goal.
